All-new 2023 Toyota Crown hybrid sedan unveiled with polarizing design
The 2023 Toyota Crown will replace the Avalon in the United States and will be equipped with hybrid powertrains
The new generation Toyota Crown isn’t something many would have anticipated years ago with crossover appeal. The Japanese auto major decided to follow the latest trends in the automotive industry and incorporated a “sophisticated higher ride height design”. The new Crown will also replace the Avalon, which will be discontinued in the US later this year.
The 2023 Toyota Crown has its front end inspired by the bZ4X concept and includes a sleek headlight cluster, a prominent air intake with gloss black surrounds, a sloping windshield, an alloy wheel size of up to 21 inches, thick metallic trim spanning the vehicle’s width, flowing side profile, sloping roofline, full-width LED light bar, sporty rear bumper, sculpted trunk lid, and more.
Toyota has given the all-new Crown a rather polarizing design and the two-tone exterior paint schemes add to the drama. As for the dimensions, it measures a length of 4,928mm, a width of 1,839mm and a height of 1,539mm with a wheelbase length of 2,850mm. It has a shorter wheelbase than the Avalon. The brand has also extensively updated the interior of the crown.
It includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with cloud-based navigation, OTR updates, six-speaker audio system, heated front seats with eight-way power adjustment, a dual-zone climate control system, wireless charging facility, and more. for the basic XLE variant. The Limited version includes heated and ventilated leather front seats, a panoramic glass roof, an 11-speaker JBL audio system, and more.
The top-spec Platinum variant comes with 21-inch wheels, an advanced parking system with hands-free parking, adaptive variable suspension, and more. As for performance, the premium sedan uses a 2.5-liter engine with two electric motors, a new nickel-metal hydride battery and e-CVT to form a hybrid system in XLE and Limited variants.
The highest spec Platinum uses the all-new 2.4-litre turbo petrol, electric motor and direct-shift six-speed AT with a new hydraulic wet multiplate clutch in its hybrid system to produce a combined 345 PS and an On-demand electronic all-wheel drive is standard.
