String Quartet Concert – Bitterroot Star

Bitterroot Baroque’s sister organization, Baroque Music Montana, based in Bozeman, presents a string quartet concert in Missoula on January 5, 2022.

Sara Levy’s Salon: Quartets of Mendelssohn and Bach will be performed on January 5 at 7:30 p.m. at UM Recital Hall, Missoula. Tickets $ 30 / $ 5 students.

Join the international Baroque Music Montana quartet to explore the musical life of Sara Levy. Sara Levy was the favorite pupil of the son of Johann Sebastian Bach and the great-aunt of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn. A brilliant pianist with a passion for history, Sara Levy was at the center of Berlin’s musical life at the turn of the 19th century. This program includes selections from the Bach family, including “Art of Fugue” associated with a fugue by the young composer of Bozeman Athena Carson, a French combat piece on the Napoleonic wars written during the occupation of Berlin and Op. 80 String quartet composed in memory of his sister Fanny.

The pieces are performed on period instruments and historic bows by musicians in a historical performance style, notable for a rarely heard lens towards Mendelssohn’s early romantic works.

The musicians are Davina Clarke & Carrie Krause, violin, Lindsey Strand Polyak, viola and Sarah Stone, cello.
